=-> Quoting Stuart Dubois to Martin Ridgley:
SD> The funny thing is, if there was one KC album which didn't need
SD> great bass playing (for the most part), it was Islands.
Hmmm... that was Boz's first album with them. I wonder if the music
didn't require great bass playing or was it just that the parts were
written to accommodate a guy who was still fairly new to the instrument?
I can't honestly discuss the album with any authority, though. I haven't
actually heard _Islands_ in many years. At the time the album didn't do
much for me. It might now, but I lost my vinyl copy in the late 70s
 sometime and never replaced it.
 =-> re Adrian Belew:
M> I like _Lone Rhino_, but his second album, _Twang Bar King_ didn't
M> do as much for me. I don't have a lot of his solo material, but one
M> that I *do* really like is _Young Lions_ (1990). IMHO, his best stuff
M> is on the two late 1980s albums by The Bears.
SD> I guess the only non-KC stuff I've heard (other than Laurie Anderson
SD> and Peter Gabriel, maybe) is _Lone Rhino_.
I didn't know he'd worked with Laurie Anderson. I don't have any of
her stuff. As for Peter Gabriel, I know that Robert Fripp is on his
first three solo albums, and Tony Levin plays on almost all of them.
I don't recall Belew working with PG, though. Unless he toured with
 him or something.
I guess Belew's best known work outside of KC has probably been his
stints as lead guitarist with David Bowie and Talking Heads.
SD> Don't know ANYTHING about the Bears, though.
The Bears were a quirky four-piece pop/rock band fronted by Belew on
lead guitar and vocals. They made only two albums, _The Bears_ (1987),
and _Rise and Shine_ (1988). Both albums were on I.R.S. and are now
out of print, but if you like Adrian Belew, they're definitely worth
 searching out.
SD> He deleted a guitar solo of the remaster of _Discipline_.
M> Whoa! I never heard about that! Which one?
SD> Something in "Matte Kudasai", according to the RMPers. I have not
SD> verified this personally, but it seems to be widely agreed upon.
Hmmmm... I'll have to check that out!
=-> re: the re-mastered versions of _Discipline_, _Beat_ and _TOAPP_:
SD> If you really can't find them, I can probably steer you to a vendor.
Well, I haven't been able to actually find copies locally, but I'm
sure I can find a store or independent dealer here who will get them
for me. Thanks anyway, for the offer, though.
=-> re: harsh criticism of Fripp's
SD> Yes, but I think I'm allowed to criticize him as much as I want,
SD> since I've been supporting him for so long.
Fair enough. You'll get no argument from me on that score! :-)
M> Actually, I find him to be quite an interesting individual. ;-)
SD> Yeah, anyone who can come up with _Court_, _LTIA_, and _Discipline_
SD> and call it the same band has to be pretty interesting.
   No kidding! ;-)
    Cheers,
             Martin
