John Piper and I did some experimenting with connects between an M34F and a
Austel Courier,  trying to force the rate up to 33600.
 
The results are pretty much as I expected.

The 3429 symbol rate was reject by the courier as expected which rulled out
33600 on that call.
 
However with the Courier originating 3429 was selected and the EQM was much
better as expected with the increased SNR.
 
But my modem only showed 33600 for half a second before a retrain,  no
amount of shifting forcing the Courier up.
 
According to John's stats the Courier is transmitting at -16dB.  Isn't this
quite low?  I've got my M34F transmitting at -11dB.
 
If I had my modem transmitting at -16dB I'd probably never see any 33600
connects,  so what's the story with the courier,  can the level be changed
, if so whats the command?
