subject: What`s `HST` mean?

DD>>> The User's Manual refers to the use of a second telephone

DD>>> port on the modem. This port is not available on your modem.

FF>> Mine is and works fine. This shows that my Courier is physically

 BG> different

FF>> from yours, so I would not be subject to these conditions.

RB>> Could you please verify this David.

BG> On US/Canada Couriers and Sportsters, the secondary RJ-11 phone socket is

BG> physically connected, and works as a kind of mode-3 adapter. However,

 BG> whilst

BG> Austel models have the socket fitted, it is not connected (in accordance

 BG> with

BG> Austel regulations). If Frank's actually works, somebody at USR has

 BG> erred.

RB>> For as long as I remember (That lets me off the hook) ALL

RB>> USR MODEMS have had 2 RJ12 sockets on them.

BG> Quite so, but only the telco input is connected internally.

I was playing with a new external Austel one here 3 weeks ago that I

am fairly sure had BOTH Sockets connected.

Fairly...I said.

I will check this out and report in...in the next little while
