However you forgot to include the fact that although as you say the
majority of the stuff on the web are compressible, the fact is the
speed of the internet nowadays would be the cause of slow transfers
not the modem. The modem would only transfer as fast as data is sent
to your ISP. And if your isp has a slow or saturated link it won't be
very fast..
