RL> TS> Do any of you guys have the schematic for the Blackface Dual
Showman?
RL> Nope.
Awww... Know where I could get it? It's basically the same as the
Twin, right? :)
RL> No, but there's plenty of guys here who own them.
Anybody wanna go measure their Marshall 4x12 slant? :)
RL> Tom used the Vintage 12s in his Marshall 212 cabinet and they sound
RL> great. I haven't heard the BR series so I can't tell you how they
und.
I'll probably go for the Vintages, unless you think that the British
may have a tighter bass... ??? :)
RL> TS> The Peavey cabs are basically Marshall dimensions, right?
RL> I wouldn't count on it.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
RL> I haven't seen them, but you might try AES.
Cool... They should have the Fender eyelet type, right?
Can I get a catalog from them?
RL> One of the problems that I can see is mounting the board. These were
RL> basically a heavy cardboard board with eyelets along the edges for
RL> tiepoints. My preferred method is to simply use terminal strips... the
RL> kind with 12 or so lugs with an "L" bracket or two on the bottom for
RL> mounting:
RL> Just don't forget which two are grounded!
Where would I be able to get those? Think that they'll be easier to
work with? Mind you, this amp will be very a very flexible design since I'm
going to just get a big metal box and drill everything myself. :)
RL> The power transformer is where you can play around a bit. Even the
RL> blackface Fenders tended to run the tubes a little hard, so lowering the
RL> B+ is not a bad idea. The secondary voltage should be on the schematic.
RL> If not, reverse-engineer from your desired B+ level, and don't forget to
RL> allow for a loss of about 40v through the rectifier (10v for solid
state).
Well, basically, what are the standard values for a blackface Dual
Showman/Twin? :)
RL> Depending on the transformer, that may not be easy. The Hammond PT
RL> series transformers use a bucking coil. I was able to wire one with an
RL> impedance selector switch, but it required a 4-pole 3-position rotary
RL> switch and I had to use all four poles, in addition to a couple of hours
RL> figuring out how to wire it.
Ohhhh... I forget what company makes it (it's on a webpage somewhere),
but they apparently make an output tranny with multiple taps at (I think) 2,
4, 8, and 16 ohms. Just gotta keep straight which tap is which, but logic
would dictate that they'd be in ascending order from left to right. But who
says logic dictates everything? :)
I think Radio Sham has some 6 pole rotary switch, but I doubt it could
handle the voltage/power thats coming out of the tranny.
