ASIC's 80 character string limit is no more a shortcoming then pascal's 255
character limit in strings is a shortcoming... there are ways to work around it
if one had mind to do so... for the most part, it is sufficient, though...
today's pascal (and other languages) allow for longer strings to be used but
there are still some OS imposed limits on command line lengths...
