Never heard of fungus getting on your media?  Lucky you.

You also get a build-up of fungus/mold on the gold contacts on your RJ11
telephone patch-cords, introducing line noise and eventually making the line
unuseable.  I don't know why, but I've never seen this on RJ45's.  But I still
check the condition of the gold "fingers" if ever a cable fault
is suspected.
