I haven't yet booted the 2020 buster, I'm on 2019 Sep; my network icon
works ok for my wifi.

Also, you can see your network info w/

inxi -Nni

which also shows your WAN IP, which inxi gets from out there on the web
somewhere.  For that in isolation, I like to use

curl icanhazip.com
