Subject: Des Moines register crappola once again
Hello everyone,
Ron Smith wrote as follows:

Wrong! Jerry Scumbag and the people at the Des Moines Register trumped up
a lot of crap for the purpose of character assassination. Go back to the
Monitor articles and reread them.
There were no weapons being manufactured and there was no conflict of
interest.
There was, after the false accusations leveled by the paper, though a
decline in quality of services from the Commission for the Blind under the
subsequent leadership.
The facts speak for themselves, Ron.
I and many others can tell you this, as we were there. Ask your friends in
ACB about clandestine bugging and taping of conversations without the
knowledge or permission of those being recorded. It's SOP for the ACB.
Mr. McDaniel, I use the term mister quite loosely, were good at it.
Rigging votes and underhanded tactics were the norm for the folks who were
out for personal gain and not the betterment of lives for the blind within
our midst.
You may respect Bob Acosta, Sylvester Nemmers and others of their ilk,
but some of us wouldn't walk across the street to help them.
I'm glad they're no longer part of us, as they weren't with us for the
right reasons.
You say you dropped out for a number of years, we'd appreciate it if you
would once again if you can't ad a constructive voice.
The accusations you level were false, and were proven
so. THere were no criminal or civil actions taken from the result of the
Des Moines register articles, and that's fact, but as normal, you Acosta
sycophants don't seem to understand facts.
Michael Gardner allowed those articles to be published when he was Editor
of the Register for Self Aggrandizement only. In fact, he encouraged them
to be published. It's fact that he was roomates in college with people
who were part of the MInneapolis Society controversy, and allowed his good
judgement to lapse when he printed the newspaper articles.
The blind of Iowa must still work to undo the dammage.
We're working toward better lives for
blind folks, and don't have time to rehash this over and over. If this is
why you're here, all well and good, but if you're just here to throw mud,
we don't need you.
Members such as you we could do without. We'll get there without you, and
probably end up improving your standard of living and opportunities along
the way, which, from your posts, is obviously more than you deserve Ron.
If you have a problem with local goings on in California, talk to people at
the National level. But, understand that this is a democratic
organization, and our leaders do what membership mandates by vote at
conventions on the state and national level. If you've a problem with
that, this isn't the place for you. If you disagree with policy, make your
voice heard in a positive way, and bring forth ideas, not innuendo and
slander, and maybe you'll be taken seriously.
I won't communicate with you anymore on the list about it, as folks from
other countries read this listserv or echo, (depending on the way they get
it) and don't need the bandwidth taken up with this, trash. Might I
suggest that you Telnet to Global Blind Exchange or somewhere similar which
carries the Fidonet Blinktalk echo.
They might be interested, but our moderator is asking that we confine our
posts here to items of interest to the movement. You've proven that you
don't want to do this, but would rather dredge up old falsehoods from our
past.
AT this point, I'd hate to see your name come up in a national report or
somewhere similar which talked about where we spend money to help folks
with discrimination cases. The way you feel about our chosen leadership,
I'd hate to say that any of the results of my work for the organization or
contributions went to help you.
