The problem most likely was that Chuck never saw or handled the rifle until a
couple of minutes before the scene was filmed. With the schedule of a weekly
production, I'm surprised that such anomolies are not more frequent. Add to
the possible causes the likelihood that the property manager went to central
properties, asked for a sniper-type rifle and brought back the only rifle in
stock at the time.
