Sounds like it's just you might have something set up wrong.

Both modems I have been using under WIN95 connect at the best speed
available. In HyperTerm the connect shows as 115200 (my port speed) but
Telix shows the actual connect speed as 28800 or 24000 or whatever. Dial-up
networking shows the same thing in its little connect box.
