I remember moving back to Iowa after the same garbage was starting here.
We had state leadership which was no longer responsive to the needs of
membership, but was kowtowing to the state agency for personal gain. We're
still recovering from the reorganization then, which was necessary to keep
our organization focused and moving in the right direction.
Sylvester Nemmers was rightly expelled from NFB, and those who chose to go
with him did so of their own free will.
I feel strongly that when leadership in a state or local part of the NFB
does not conform with policy, the National leadership should step in. If I
wanted a wishy washy leadership which was beholden to agencies for the
blind, I'd join ACb or another organization, but I don't. I joined NFB
because we are the voice of the blind, and work to improve conditions for
the blind as well as educate the public. These goals are inconsistent with
leadership which is more interested in feathering their nests than in
serving their communities.
Some other Monitor articles of interest: "They Want Their Easter Dinner"
and a few on the Iowa situation should bring the matter into sharp focus.
Bob Acosta and the expelled leader from Iowa are of a kind, and I'm glad
they're gone from the sceen.
As a final note, should the Sylvester Nemmers and Bob Acosta ilk become the
norm, my money and support will go elsewhere.
