Nope, it was for a good reason ... Although a school with an emphasis on the
arts will look over your experiences and your small (but growing, I'm sure)
portfolio, having an excellent GPA and good grades can help you out when
competing for both a place in the program AND in getting scholarships. For
instance, if it comes down to you and another person who exhibits equal
alent
and potential, the deciding factor in all probability could be your grades --
no matter what kind of class they were earned in.
Cal Arts will award you a bachelor's degree ... So, you will still have to
meet academic standards universal to all bacculaureate programs. Don't sell
any class short -- even if you think it has no bearing on a career as an
artist -- even a science course could come back and help you as an animator
(i.e., knowing a little geology, you could produce background scenes that
don't just look realistic -- they're accurate If Disney is your goal, you
now
what sticklers they are for realism in all they produce). As witnessed by
his
year's release of "Hunchback," it is also obvious that English Literature
ill
also provide future fodder for your imagination and your art ... I could go
n
and on, but I think you get the idea -- the more rounded you are in your
otal
education and experiences, the better your art will be ...
What an exciting time for you -- I wish you the best as you pursue your dream
career! If you make it out here and attend Cal Arts, you must call my BBS
