Hi Marv!
->MH>> You know, though, i did a job a couple of weeks ago for Asleep

->BG> Well, first thing it suggests to me is that the sound system had
->BG> very weak bass response and this was the only way to coax it up
->BG> sufficiently, and that the highs were simiarly weak or "lobey"

->BG> axis.
-> Well, with 12 dual 18 subs (at their request as opposed to the usual
-> mix of 6 dual 18'a and 6 dual 15 folded's) there was not a weakness
-> of bass response, and running our normal aray of high end stuff that
-> was also not the problem. Just one of those obnoxious rooms that you
-> hit now and then.
And they didn't have bass traps all over the place? Sheeshm with 12 dual
18" subs, you should have been able to level the place!!!
-> Always do my initial setup by ear before grabbing the RTA just to see
-> how close the ear is, and see if I have lost it yet. Really had me
-> wondering if I had totally lost my ear for a bit.. :-)..Marv Hubbard
That's my prefered method to set up a system as well, when there is
enough time. I did a large church job once that I had a lot of time to
fine tune the system, and when I added the Ivie test set on it there was
only minor changes in a couple of bands when tuned to some of my
personal favorite material.
I like to mold the system as needed over a few hours before actually
starting to rely on the RTA, Unfortunately, we often don't get the
luxury of testing ourselves at the same time we bring a sound system to
life and usually have to try for a flat curve with the greatest of
speed and not self test ourselves at the same time the system gets
tested. It is the final stages of system design and construction though,
and time passes all to quicky on this gratifying, yet occasionally
frustrating part of sound system installations.
