After I read your original message I had to set it up myself prior to 
replying to you. I did however remember that it was not straight forward nor 
had info regarding where to load up the smapi directory so I had to try it. 
The main trick is to look at the make files and if needed the log and error 
files when compiling so I run 'make > build.log 2> build.err' to allow me to 
look at the error/warning messages which allowed me to see the correct 
directory structure.

If you get caught again in this, try the above method.
