Hello Ward.

Some guys speak up out of ignorance since they don't and can't
really know what the experience is like. I think what is important
is that the guy be happy with what the women needs. While it is
important for both parents to share the birthing experience as much
as is possible. The ultimate experience is the mothers and her needs
and desires need to come first.

What is important is what is right for the individual. Your wife
seems to have wanted to have the full experience without having that
experience changed by drugs and such. That is fine because that is what
works for her. Just as it is also fine for those that chose to birth
a child with a minimum of discomfort.

I had a son that I was watching being born years ago. When suddenly
the attendants instructed the mother to stop pushing. They also gave her
an injection to help in pausing the delivery. Seems that the fetus had
suddenly turned and was coming out face first with his head tilted
backwards with his forehead resting on the mother's pelvic bone. Giving
birth would
have most likely broken his neck. The mother was rushed away to have a
C-section performed. The preceding son was born naturally but with his
cord wrapped around his neck three times. again there was a sudden flurry
action by the attendants to reach in and try to unwrap the cord as the
child was being born. In the stage of delivery that the mother was in there
was NO holding anything. I am glad to be able to state that both sons
were born healthy.

The sad part for me is that I haven't seen either son since they were
about 3 years old. Which was some 17 years ago now. I love my children
very much and it pains me very deeply not knowing where or how they are.
