G'day All,
My wife is perfectly happy to see through a small badly aligned scope
as
she is to see through a good home built scope as well as the commercial
SCT's. Why? Because she sees stars, the moon and planets, NOT faults with
the scope. Myself, I encourage anyone to start with what they can and if
they want to and are interested I'll show them stuff to whet their appetite
for more.
Doing my Mirror Matic is great fun BUT, the way I build and tinker
it'll be
months if not years before anything comes of it. I enjoy my ATM tinkering
and she enjoys the stars for what they are. Mention collimation to her and
no interest whatsoever. One of the previous members of our little band told
one of our meetings that if you didn't sketch for hours you were not seeing
what is there. My wife though (and other) were perfectly happy to see what
THEY saw without stretching for the extra magnitude. I also like seeing
people amazed with their first view of the moon through a scope. Even a bad
scope doesn't do too bad IF you don't know what it could be like.
        Different strokes for different folks.

Cheers

John Murray
