Hi Jim:
=> I wonder where they got the tires for the C-46 as I was told 2-3 years ago
by
=>
=> the fellow that owns the C-46 in the Confederate Air Force circuit that
he
=> tire manufacturer told him they were no longer going to make main wheeel
tire

I don't know where they got new boots for her. The C-46 and
C-47 sit beside each other. The have switched tires on the aircraft
before; one needs to be observant and watch for these things. The C-47
got her new paint job and was fitted with litters inside. Nice lighting
was added. Then, the next visit saw her with new main gear tires. Then
they disappeared and re-appeared sometime later.
Perhaps there is a warehouse someplace with maingear tires for
the beasts yet. Remember, there are a lot of Gooney Birds still working
around the world today, and they will all need new tires at some point in
time.
Cooper Tire is located in Dayton, Ohio, not far from the
Museum. Maybe they could be persuaded to make some tires for some very
deserving airplanes. :-)
