I work for the EDA Tools division of a Fortune-500 company (not Intel)
developing software to verify billion-transistor processor designs.
Performing a layout-to-schematic comparison for things that large is extremely
non-trivial - at least if you want it to complete within your lifetime. We
make extensive use of parallel processing algorithms. The work is
fascinating, but if I revealed any more I'd have to kill you all :-).

By night, I maintain a sizable collection of classic hardware. Just finished
a comprehensive inventory of my Apple 2 gear and software. > 200 boards of
various types and about 400 software titles. My wife thinks I've overdone it!
  I call it fun.

The VHDL + FPGA bug has bitten hard and I'm spending time with my nose in the
books getting up to speed. It's enough different from my day job to be
intriguing.
