well if I may throw my hat in the ring on this as well,My main reason of 
running diodes on my motors (I ran 3) was to elimenate radio glitching.
I soldered the smaller type from each leg on the endbell then to the can, the 
larger type accross the legs where my wires were soldered on. I had very good 
results with this setup.
