Well. The advisor tended to be really strict. We had to be on-time for
meetings, attendance every week. It was hard if we had band. There were
band members from three different schools so the practice schedules are
different. They expected us to be at every campout, they didn't really like
it if you had to miss it due to a previous engagement. It was really
stressfull in the amount of hours we had to put in. (Espically with school
stuff to worry about) I don't remeber all that much on how long the courses
took for us to complete I took both of them in 94/95. The advisor cut the
amount of hours that we have to be trained so it wouldn't be as long for us.
(not really supposed to).
We did the training during the regular meetings for the post. One night a
week from 7-8:30. It wasn't that bad. They trained us using dummies. (adult
and infant) We had to read from books as "homework" for both the first
responder and CPR class. We also had to make up these cards (on index cards)
saying like a type of illnes or allergy etc... then on the other side the
symptoms. also they had us do type of notes on the cards too.
The Explorer program is a co-ed Boy Scout program. To be an Explorer Scout
you have to be between 14 and 21. after that you can become a leader
(advisor). That's how the medical explorer post can work at boy scout camps
and campouts as the first-aiders.
You are in band? So am I! What instrument do you play? I play the
Flute/Piccolo and the Bassoon. How long have you been in band? This is my
7th year. I will be going to college in the fall and continue with being in
band. Although I will only minor in music performance. At this point I want
to go through the pre-med, and major in Biology (of Chemistry but, most
likely not) then go to medical school. I want to become a doctor. My Bio
grades are good. In Bio I, I got B's in Bio II (Anatomy and Phys) I
recieved 2 B's in first semester and the 3rd quarter is ending tommorrow
(3/26) and I have an A right now. I'm proud of myself :) The Bio II books
are college books. So I'm working at a college level class in terms of the
work even though I only get the high school credit. But it's a really nice
class.
