TR> Unless you are in Mexico, the waving of a Mexican flag in
TR> America, in celebration of some obscure Mexican event that
TR> didn't even occur in America, is not just silly, its (in my
TR> estimation) deliberately insulting.

BK>If it's an Irish flag is it OK?

Those holding an Irish flag aren't advocating making the place they display
that flag part of Ireland, as opposed to Hispanics, who want to make the South
West `Mexico'.

RC>>Silk screened on a t-shirt?

TR> The biggest problem with Cinco De Mayo being celebrated at
TR> all (never mind being celebrated in a foreign country where
TR> the event didn't even take place) is, its the celebration

BK>St Patrick's day celebrates a saint who never heard of America.

People who do not hide American flags, or turn their tee shirt with an
American flag displayed on it inside out to hide that flag, do not get beaten
up, or their vehicles vandalized, or rocks trown at them as they drive by, in
a St Patricks Day parade.

TR> of the winning of *one* battle in a war they ultimately
TR> lost! Its the same as...say....Japan annually celebrating
TR> Pearl Harbor Day,

BK>Don't be sure they don't.

TR> or Germany celebrating their `victory'
TR> over Poland in 1939, even though both Japan and Germany
TR> ultimately lost WWII, and at great cost to themselves.

BK>A battle for freedom can be celebrated just for the courage
BK>displayed. After all, the French citizens won their revolution,
BK>but then lost it all anyway.

I don't think the country of Mexico itself celebrates Cinco de Mayo.

I don't care about their celebrating Cinco de Mayo. They can celebrate `Judas
Priest' Day for all I care.

But getting huffy, and sometimes even violent, over Americans displaying the
American Flag on Cinco de Mayo day, is unacceptable behavior. And if you lived
out here a while, you'd know they don't do stuff like that in the same spirit
as Irish-Americans do St Patrick's Day. Cinco de Mayo celebrations out here
have some sinister overtones to it.

Incidently, a small followup, here:

I heard on the news tonight that the president of Mexico stood at the White
House with Hussein Obama, and on-camera condemned Arizona's immigration law,
saying it was discriminatory!

By the way....during St Patrick's Day parades, I've seen as many or more
American Flags displayed as Irish. And sometimes, both flags carried side by
side.

In the Cinco de Mayo situation.....they don't even want an American Flag in
sight!

The vast majority of hispanics who are here legally, illegally ,or whatever,
don't want to `be' Americans....they just want to be `citizens', or have the
same privileges of citizens. But they do not want to be `Americans'. We don't
need people like that here. We already have enough `devisiveness' to go
around.

And one of the worst advocates of that `devisiveness' is now in the White
House!
