 I was just pulling his leg, because he lectured me on someting I had written
 myself in the text he is quoting.

 As with respect to a 6mm or a B drill, for a normal hole you would
 grab one or the other. For a precision fit where the 4th decimal counts you
 will use different tools anyway.
