Replying to a message of Ward Dossche to Bob Ackley: >> On talking with the guard several hours later it seems that one of >> their 16 year old friends was delivering an infant and they all wanted >> to watch; I guess they thought the birthing rooms were huge and had >> bleachers for the cheering fans. WD> When my wife had contractions like every 5 minutes ready to deliver WD> our lastone we arrived at the maternity ward, my wife was visually WD> suffering and showed a big belly. WD> Out came a nun in a nurses' outfit and asked: "What are you here for?" WD> So I answered rather short "Since this obviously is not a T-shirt WD> store and my wife has contractions, you may have one guess!" I've noted elsewhere that I once worked in a hospital (a couple of them, in fact). In one case a v-e-r-y pregnant lady showed up at the maternity entrance and had to wait for the ward to send someone down with a wheel chair. The baby was delivered in the hospital hallway by a female security guard and a male computer operator (who had four kids of his own); mother and infant then continued their interrupted trip to the ward as individuals (and in a wheelchair pushed by the computer operator - who happened to be the fellow I would relieve at the end of his shift). --- FleetStreet 1.19+* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:2905/3) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 2905/3 14/0 5 140/1 123/500 379/1 633/267 |
