=-> Quoting LORNE MURPHY to MIKE TAYLOR:
LM> _Going for the One_... it is probably my favorite.
I never really got into this one. For better or worse, I pretty
much lost interest in Yes around that time.
LM> They just seemed to sound fresher than on _Relayer_, though that's
LM> a strong album as well.
I really like _Relayer_. I'm a big fan of Patrick Moraz's playing.
I actually like his work on _Relayer_ better than almost anything
Wakeman ever did with the band. (Oooops! 'Scuse me for a sec, while
I don the asbestos pyjamas!) ;-)
I'm afraid I don't recall what else he did with Yes, though. I got
into Moraz's solo career and basically lost interest in Yes. What other
Yes albums is he on? When did he quit the band?
LM> As far as those earlier albums go, I still prefer _The Yes Album_
LM> to _Fragile_ or _CttE_ (yes, I love those too! :))... obviously
LM> Wakeman is excellent, but Kaye managed somehow on that album...
LM> great songs, too.
Yes! I *love* _The Yes Album_. I like Tony Kaye's playing on
it as well as Bruford's (I'm a long time fan of his), and as you say,
the songs are superb!
I suppose I am in the minority among the critics and Yes fans alike
in saying that I never really liked _Fragile_ all that much. However,
I *did* quite like it's follow-up, _Close to the Edge_.
=-> Mike Taylor threw in his two cents worth, saying:
MT> IMO, _Drama_ and _BG_ stand as the lowest points of anything
MT> Yes ever put out.
LM> _Big Disappointment_, certainly. But _Drama_ worse than _Union_?
I've never even heard those albums. As I said, after _Going for the
One_ and _Tormato_, I turned off them. I did eventually pick up _90125_
though, and enjoyed it. The production is good and it's got at least a
couple of strong songs.
I guess I ought to go back and listen/re-listen to the other interim
albums. My interest in Moraz would make anything with him on it worth
a listen. But based on some of the opinions I've seen here, as well as
those of my friends, I honestly don't think I can justify going out and
buying them - unless I can find decent copies in a used record shop or
something. I'll have to take a look and see what's in the various
collections of some of my friends. ;-)
Cheers,
Martin
