This problem was present on the list for the long time and dealt with to considerable
details so that I can say that above statement is misinterpretation of what
actually happened.

It was never attempted to determine which method was wrong or right. It was
suspected by James that HIS method may be wrong or imprecise and he tried
honestly
to find out if that is so and if yes than why ( if his approach was wrong
is not the point).

James spend considerable amount of words to make it clear that he is not questioning
 quality of the mirror or testing done by the owner.

Publishing of the "statement" in this form is in my opinion good
sample of commercialized  "reasoning".

But this is only one opinion, mine.
