What may be the problem is that your BOIS is telling windows that valid com
ports are 1 and 3 but windows calls these com 1 and 2 and if your modem is
internal and is set up to run on com 3 then windows would have ports like you
described eg
com1 - something
com2 - real com 2
com2 - modem which is com3.
I had a similar problem with a mates computer.
