Yes, the 3 vane is not as strong or stable. Well, I guess beauty is in the
eye of the beholder ('screwy setup'). For me, I let form follow function
and it usually turns out looking kewl after the requisite getting used to
period. As to the flares, they are noticably quiet on normal stars. On
Vega et al, you do see a series of these little guys jutting out a very
short distance - whisper thin.
