As those terms seem to do...   My son called his paternal grandmother
"Pom-pom" when he was really young... and then that remained his special
name for his special grandmother even up to her death... and he still
uses that to refer to her even now.  We figured out that it had probably
come from his calling her spouse "Pampa" instead of Grampa, when he was
still having trouble with some sounds... and initially was perpetuated
because he had a LOT of grandparents and great-grands living to keep
straight...  I had 3 grands still living, hubby had 2, and then there
were my parents and his parents...  so there were (great) Grandmother,
(great) Grampaw, (great) Granmaw, (great) Grandpa, (great) Grandma,
Granddaddy, Grandmommy, Grampa and Pom-pom...  As time went on, and the
grands necessarily thinned out, the special name stayed...  I think he
was 6 when the first of them passed.
