Danny, at 12:07 on Oct 27 1996, you wrote to Steve Eagland ... SE>> does anybody know whether or not when the new 56+ rockwell SE>> chipsets are released later this year or early next year I SE>> will be able to upgrade the existing chip in my KTX 28.8 SE>> extrnal modem to the newer and faster chip? DK> You'll have to get a digital modem connection 'cause the DK> standard phone lines will not handle 56K. They have enough DK> trouble handling 33.6K Mine don't! Better than 90% of my calls to my host are 33,600. Some of my users have bursts of continuous 33,600 calls for days (then they might drop back to 31,200 for a while). It seems to depend on your physical distance from your exchange. I suggest you read the press release re 56k again Danny. They claim you will be able to get 56k on a PSTN line (that's analog), when the party at the other end (the ISP) is digital. Only one end of the connection will have to be digital.
