MM>"Installing" the ability to think?? I don't like that word.
PS>
PS> Sorry, I tend to leave out words in my thoughts. It should
PS> have read "installing the ability to think logically, independently,
PS> and free from other influencing and over -riding factors." Basically,
PS> a concept of freedom in thought. Not be programmed by dogma, but an
PS> induvisual decision based on what one believes to be factual. Now, I
PS> hope really don't have a problem with that?
No. I mean, it's true that actually America is a pretty free-thinking
place compared to other countries and their education. That's why the
Japanese don't invent too much stuff. WE've invented everything that
the world uses, except for bicycles. We;'ve still got the frontier
spirit, creativeness, etc. And to a degree this is taught in school,
to its credit. It's fashionable to teach kids that thinking on your
own is good. And it's good to teach this, if nothing else to just
say it.
MM>All of these things that you mentioned are merely *more schooling*. Of
cou
MM>that's the case. You need to pass through the gradations to get further
on.
MM>But what about job-wise or career-wise etc? I haven't seen a difference.
MM>People with only a high school diploma are working the same jobs as
MM>someone without one.
PS>
PS> I would seriously invite you to search the ERIC files, or the US
PS> Department of Education, Commerce, and came up with some facts to back
PS> that up. You say, you haven't seen a differnce? How did you measure
PS> this?
PS>
Now, that's just by observation I have to admit. I mean seriously, I don't
see anyone with *just* a high school diploma doing anything different than
someone who didn't even graduate. In fact, in a progressive city like
Austin, TX, the people who are in college but haven't graduated are lumped
into the same jobs as people with just a high school diploma.
