Dont know what qemm and magnaram are.

My problem seems to be that under modem properties there are 'two com2 ports'
listed, so I dont know which to pick as they are not distinguishable in 
any way.

Furthermore, system devices, lists only one com2 port.

And, if I remove the modem, and com2 port, I can still load up terminate in
win95 and get the modem to answer the line.

Have a look under your modem properties and let me know what you have there
I have:
 com1
 com2
 com2

two com2 ports. I can remove one with control panel->settings->system, but the
other one seems to be invisible.
