subject: finding correct version information

Hello,

i tried to complile msged-stable-latest.tar.gz, source download via sf.net.

msged VERSION file said:
msged 6.0.2-stable
requires smapi 2.2-stable

ok, i got also smapi-stable-latest.tar.gz via same directory of sf.net.

smapi VERSION file said:
smapi-2.2.4-release
CVS tag: smapi-2_2_4-release

I read current /huskybse/DEPENDENCIES which said:
You can upgrade each part WITHIN a stable branch (i.E. only changing the
third version number) wihtout having to upgrade any other part of your
installation. You can find out which stable branches are required by
viewing the VERSION file in each project archive/directory.

At this point i understand that this versions are compatible and may used
together. Is that correct so far?

Anyhow, it didnt work and compilation of msged failed with many errors.
I downloaded the smapi-2.2.4-src.tar.gz which had the same VERSION
indication, and it works.

I checked the "lastet" archive and did a grep for version, which
find in msgapi.h:
smapi/msgapi.h:#define MSGAPI_VERSION 2
smapi/msgapi.h:#define MSGAPI_SUBVERSION 0x240
smapi/msgapi.h:#define SMAPI_VERSION "2.4.0"

At this point i liked to ask you which version number is the correct one.

But now i have seen that in the CVS directory the Tag and Entries files are
talking about smapi-2_4-stable. This and the fact msged didnt compile with
it makes me think that it is really the the version 2.4.0.

Could anybody recheck the VERSION file of the smapi-2.4-stable and on?

(hm, much writing for a simple question, reviewing this echo i think i am
to verbose. sorry if i am, i will try to do better)

Tschuess

Kai
