James and Harvey,
You guys should go back in your history a bit -- To the early 1970's
back in Iowa.
Read up on all the Des Moins Register articles about Kennith Jernigan
and his abuse of funds and power at the Iowa Commition!
This is what prompted him to flee Iowa, escaping prosecution, and
running off to Baltimore to start all over.
I dropped out for a number of years, because of the Hitlerian, cultic
goose stepping approach in which NFB had conducted their affairs for
years. They waisted a lot of money on airline issues, and not enough on
finding ways to making blind more employable.
Don't forget, Bob Acosta went to the school of Jerniganism, so what can
you expect if a bit of power went to his head.
Now that Jernigan has somewhat taken a back seat, even though he still
runs the show from behind the sceen and pulls Marc Maurer's strings, the
NFB has made some comendable contributions to blind persons. Jernigan is
still considered a God Father to some in this organization, but times
are a changing, to reference a Bob Dylan song.
I will give credit to either side for their contributions, and on the
other hand, critiism when warranted!
I rejoined the NFB, because, I think the dark days of the organization
are coming to a close and the organization is moving ahead with a new
generation. Of course, many in the A-C-B won't consider doing so, until
Jernigan is dead. Many A-C-B ers still remember the problems of the late
1950's, which caused the big split. Its like unto Cathelics and
Prodestants.
I also think people take this Dr. Jernigan title a bit far, since its
only an honorary degree, even though he's an excellent writer, it justs
adds to inflating ones' ego and vanity.
I personally think only medical doctors should be entitle to this title
of Doctor, and not some PhD (piled higher and deeper).
Also, one final point, acountability is an important factor in the
successful running of any organization.
What I mean is, that we need to prevent any charismatic types from
trying to become a benevolent dictator, as a few have been.
The only one I'll ever bow the knee to is Jesus Christ!
Well, enoughof my ranting for now.
