I manage a branch of an eletrical supply house, and company wide (6
stores) the corporation takes out about 4% profit on the bottom line.
This is after ALL expenses are taken out (COGS, salaries, equipment,
utilities, etc).  To achieve this all of the stores NEED to maintain a
profit margin (not MARKUP) of around 30%.  We are very succesful in or
market and are gaining more and more share everyday.  Company wide, we
do about $18m in sales annually.
