Hello all,
Whilst I've been lurking in here for few months, and posted the
occasional message - I sometimes wonder if they actually manage
to cross the pacific at all.
My eldest son, Shane, has been diagnosed as ADHD, and on the
appropriate medication, which is doing wonders for his academic
and social abilities. Mostly.
However, his sportsmanship is in question, and I wonder if anyone
else has noticed this situation with their ADHD/ODD children.
Shane is an excellent athlete, claiming either 1st, 2nd or 3rd
prizes for track events .
But when he looses to either of the lesser two positions, he gets
very angry at himself, and the other winner, and a couple of
times has come close to blows. Either that, or there is a major
drama act with much stomping around and defiance attitude, and
accusations of "cheating".
And at soccer, when our goalie lets through a kick, he mouths
off, and argues with the ref that it wasn't a goal, and then
disputes the final score with all and sundry, especially if his
team lost. I actually pulled him off the field last week because
he swore at the goalie, and made him sit out the last half of the
game.
So, anyone else noticed similar dramatics ??
Also, I noticed that his medication, Ritalin, can cause his
reflex, or his sporting ability to diminish somewhat, especially
if he has an early morning game - about 1-2 hours after his
morning tablet. I've noticed that he takes that little bit longer
to react - missed tackles, missed or carelessly placed shots,
etc.
Could this be considered a normal side-effect ??
