No need (and they should already have opaque stickers on their windows).

The scanning light is of short duration and not a problem.

You'll need to be sure that your scanner has good depth of focus.
Some only focus sharply within a millimeter or two of the glass.

BTW, a frame-filling >7MP macro photo provides plenty of detail.
You'll need a "copy style" lighting setup with at least two
side lights.
