HM>>> Actually Rockwell never released a 33600 chipset. The 05BA chip
HM>>> happens to support 33600 operation. I've had this chip in my V.34
HM>>> modem since last November. No hardware was changed to upgrade the
HM>>> modem to 33600.
>> Yes, I new that... I just had a brain fart. I meant that Rockwell have
>> only just RELEASED A 33600 MODEM.
HM> No, no, still wrong. Rockwell haven't changed a thing. What you mean is
HM> that
HM> it's only recently that Rockwell-based 33600 modems have become
HM> available. This
HM> is nothing to do with Rockwell, but everything to do with modem
HM> manufacturers
HM> learning how to tweak the existing chip for 33600. Supra was among the
HM> first;
HM> when I got the first 33.6 ROM, I crashmailed Lewin and he was surprised.
While I used to haunt the Supra Echo, USR went to 33600, There were
a lot of people asking if Supra would be producing a 33600. And Supra
said nothing then. I like that fact that Supra & USR seem tarred with
the same brush and do recognise each others technology and ability.
HM> Too
HM> bad they didn't keep it a secret, even Maestro are in on the act now :-)
Agreed, It should never have been made " Generic"...The Quality only
suffers, then.
HM> Mind you, Maestro want $160 to upgrade from V.FC to V.34+, which involves
HM> a new
HM> datapump and a new ROM. Supra charge $40 USD for the datapump change (ROM
HM> is
Sensible, The only thing lacking in the Supra when I had them..was
33600.
HM> flash). So for the Maestro, datapump costs say $60, new ROM is say $10,
HM> which
HM> leaves $90 for labour. Time to program a ROM, change the PLCC datapump
HM> and the
HM> DIP ROM approximately two minutes, 1 minute to test. $30 a minute. Where
HM> can I
HM> get such a job?
You would do good as a Used car salesman...Thats for sure
>> Regards....my foot. You are only haunting this echo to pickup on my brain
>> farts and tttthrow em back at me. How maany times is that, now ;-(
HM> :-)
HM> Regards,
HM> Hamish
My Foot, again
