DW> ... V34, and now I find myself with an upgraded external VFC/V34

DW> support, and they informed me that it will cost $249.00 (Canadian)
DW> to upgrade to the 33.6 Business Modem with flash rom. (That is the
DW> sysop price for an _UPGRADE_) .. Then I found out that you can pur-
DW> chase a brand new Optima 33.6k Businessmodem through the Sysop/ISP
DW> for $249.00 Canadian... I'm a little confused here.. This means that
DW> I can trade in my current modem and get a new 33.6 modem for the same
DW> price it will cost me to buy an additional modem, which is the exact
 DW> same thing ..

HS> We're offering all of our 33.6K upgrades basically at cost. Those
HS> that can be flashed are free. The ones that require just a single chip
HS> are like $10, etc. In the case of the older metal case OPTIMA 288's,
HS> there's no way to upgrade the old units. So instead we're offering a
HS> trade-in to the OPTIMA Business Modem once it has 33.6K at $199. In
HS> addition to 33.6K you pick up a slew of features including flash roms,
HS> caller-id, distinctive ring detect, remote config, voice, etc.
HS> Sysops already get these units at $199 brand new as an outright pur-
HS> chase...$199 is as low as we can go on that unit and cover costs.
HS> (The $199.00 listed above is in US dollars).
HS> So basically the special for a sysop is that you can get the same unit
HS> and keep your old one instead of trading it in....in which case you
HS> can resell it to one of your users or whatever.
Michael, I bought one internal and one external Accura 28.8 FaxModem
last May (including the external that is *SO* sensitive to line noise
it drives me crazy). If there was any mention of FLASH capability on
either one, I didn't see it mentioned anywhere. Tell me more about
my upgrade possibilities (at present I have never seen better than a
2900 cps = 23,200 bps download rate on zipped mail, and a very rare
25,600 bps rate on files not as efficiently compressed).
