Hey, as a native Californian, I'm offended. ;)  Disneyland is not as 
geographically large as WDW, but that makes it easier to get around as 
well.  There's also some attractions you can find at DL that aren't at 
WDW.  I think our biases lay with which coast we're closer to, so the 
person who told you Disneyland "isn't as good" was probably an East 
Coaster.   You should come to DL and decide for yourself, it's Disney 
after all! :)
