On 11 Jul 96 09:20:18 Tim Brown was saying to Rick Massey -
TB> I love ancient Epic Poetry, Mythology, and stuff like that.
TB> I am very Devout as far as my Beliefs and my creed are concerned, so
TB> those also come into play as Factors when I am writing. To me, if Your
TB> Lyrics do not Convey some kind of Message, then they will have very
TB> little meaning to someone else.
From a commercial point of view, the lyrics aren't always too
important. With the exception of one or two writers such as Costello
or Difford and Tilbrook, the punter immediately buys on the feel
and sound. They usually take time to learn the words later.
TB> Most people write MANY Horrible songs and get 1 that is really good
TB> for every however many they can draw from. That is the Average.
TB> Just because you Write something, that does not make it great.
Absoulutely right. I've seen bands that were so poor at
songwriting, when they played one acceptable song it almost sounded
brilliant because of the poor quality that preceded it. :)
TB> Humorous situation. He wrote Lyrics that have NO meaning
TB> Whatsoever, Line upon Line they will make no sense at all. To me
TB> there HAS to be a Message that others can relate to.
Whiter Shade of Pale is an example where this format actually
works. I wouldn't recommend trying to base an income on it though.
TB> Like I said before though, I write music that ** I ** like to listen
TB> to; that doesn't mean that they are all "masterpieces", but On average
TB> I don't do to bad.
Then Good luck in the future with it! :)
