MB>Thanks so much for your detailed answer. I'm not sure why I never
MB>saw these before. They sound quite interesting. I have used the
MB>little Jiffy 7 peat things ocassionally. They sound sorta like a
MB>home made version of those. I looked in Johnny's and found the
I don't like Jiffy 7's. When I used them, and pulled the plants up at
the end of the season, most of the roots were still in the Jiffy. The
nylon net restricted root growth far too much. That's why I have also
resisted the use of those paper potmakers - I want good root growth -
it is far more vital to the eventual harvest than any amount of top
  growth.
MB>outdoors. I guess the part that intrigues me the most is that
MB>the soil mixture will hold together so well.
Well, it's a combination of compression of a wet soil-peat mixture,
and not moving them around a lot. But once the cubes are filled with
roots (about 2-3 weeks), then I can and do shift them if necessary.
It's very easy to give friends one of this or that w/o causing major
trauma to the seedlings that remain.
MB>SP> I consider my blockmakers in the same category as my tiller - not
MB>SP> 110% necessary, but 100% nice to own and use for time and labour
MB>SP> and ecology saving. :-)
MB>Thanks again for your info, it was real helpful.
  You're welcome, Marilyn. :-)
