Hello there! I just got some information that may be useful to some of you.
I sure hope so anyway.
Below is the address of a new committee that was set up to look into the
Chidren's Protective Services system. They need to hear from everyone that
is or has been wrongly put through the CPS system (Social Services, DYFS,
DPASS, DSS, etc.). This committee is reviewing the methods used and the way
the laws are applied and so forth. The more people they hear from, the
better the chances of getting this epidemic stopped. I understand (from
VOCAL) that they will continue reviewing until September, and are then
supposed to be making recommendations for changes. So PLEASE, write to them
and tell them your story. Each letter could make a difference. Also, if you
have any recommendations of your own, please let them know. These are people
that are presently in a position to help on a national level.

Anyone wishing statistical information for CPS involvement (including the
percentages of unsubstantiated cases and the number of children removed in
each state) may obtain that information for 1990, 1991, and 1992. Call the
National Clearing House on Child Abuse & Neglect Information
1-800-394-3366
or write to
National Clearing House on Child Abuse & Neglect Information
3998 Fair Ridge Drive, Suite 350
Fairfax, Virginia 22033
ask for the 1992 Report (Free of charge), and send $8 for the 1990 Report
and $10 for the 1991 Report - Working Paper #1, Publication #92-30361 and
Working Paper #2, Publication #20-10031. This will give you the most current
information available (that I have been able to find).
Anyone interested in obtaining International Information on this subject,
send a $5 check or money order to:
ISPCAN
332 S. Michigan, Suite 1600
Chicago, IL 60604
and ask for "THE DATA BOOK". ISPCAN stands for the International Society for
the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect.
After I get all the information I plan to compile the statistics based on
the figures from 1990-1992 and do a 10 year projection based on the increase
percentages. I will of course send a copy of these findings to the
Administration For Children and Families and make them as public as I
possibly can.
Anyone wishing to find out about the number of chidren removed from their
homes in their respective counties, can call the State Department of Social
Services in the their capital, and ask for the Statistics Department. In
California, that number is 1-916-657-3661.
Does anyone get the idea that I like statistics? (Okay, I confess. I do like
numbers - however, not when those numbers represent chidren kidnapped from
their homes by a system that is running wild.)
Hope this helps or is of interest to someone else besides me.
Let me know. Thanks!
Valery Frosty
