Please imagine you are shooting on a typical UK FT course. The target is a
standing shot at 35 yards. The target is 15 foot up a tree. Due to the
uneven ground your left foot has the toe angled down and the ankle is
turned out. Your right foot is higher than the left by some 4 to 5 inches,
the toe is angled up and the ankle is turned out. The ground is sodden wet,
slippery and your left leading foot is sinking slightly into the ground.
The wind is blowing left to right, gusting between 5 and 15 mph. You are
trying to achieve that perfect indoor 10 m standing target stance with
great difficulty and the muzzle of the rifle is being blow around by the
wind. I would suggest that the last thing you would want is a forward heavy
rifle.
