That's the under statement of the year. If I were living the
kind of lifestyle he was living for those fifteen years I would
have "given to the cause," too although it would be more accurate
to say he took from the cause
NF>James, I'd sure like to see your documentation in saying Bob Acosta
NF>ripped off A-C-B.
Where have you been? I refer you to the article in the June 1994
issue of the Braille Monitor called, "Robert Acosta: a Study in Lavish Living
and Limousines." You don't remember when John Lopez whom he thought was one
of
his lieutenants blew the whistle on him for what he was doing with
C.C.B. money? Maybe C.C.B. has hundreds of thousands of dollars to
spend on Mr. Acosta's personal lavish lifestyle, but I think the money could
have been better spent helping blind related causes than for
taking limousines to Dodger games and other such things. He
should have been prosecuted by all rights and C.C.B. will
probably never get that money back.
And don't forget that he was also forced off the national A.C.B.
board for his wrong doing just as he was expelled from the N.F.B.
I don't know whether he was officially expelled from the A.C.B. or not, but
e
was certainly brought down and his efforts to form a third national
organization
of blind people failed miserably.
But I would say, just read the article most of which is taken
directly from C.C.B. board meeting transcripts and see if that's
how you would want your organization's money spent.
NF>Don't forget, NFB spent over one million dollars back in the late
NF>1970's trying to get the treasury of California back. And the NFB
NF>lost that one badly.
Wrong, we ultimately won that law suit.
NF>Don't forget, both Sharon Gold and Kenneth have had their share of
NF>messing things up over the years!
You do have a partial point. When Robert Acosta did it, it was
spread all over the Monitor and on presidential releases, but
when Sharon Gold misused money and abused her power which
eventually forced her resignation from both the national board of
directors and California state president, it was kept relatively quiet
especially the mess with the Lawrence Marcellino Center for the
Blind which crashed almost as soon as it began.
