For once I agree with Jane that we lack rituals in our society. We have
throun them to the wind. TAke for example the transition from adolescence to
adulthood. Many societies have formal rituals. WE laclk these. Another
problem with our present society is that we have gotten separated from the
land. We no longer work within the family at teh same enterprise as farm
families did. We no longer have appreciaion for the land and teh
environment. I don't think I'm far afield from the question of drug
addiction either. A large part of societies dependence on drugs, whether
legal or illegal is because of lack of structure through rituals and lack of
relatedness through breakdown of the family, a basic societal institution.
