I think (I'm not sure) that it was because I was using BRE 987 instead of 988, which I didn't think would be a problem.. but I read rumors somewhere that 987 might not be y2k compliant, which would certainly explain the problem.. I gave it another shot using BRE 988 and it works perfectly-- all I have to do is set the clock ahead a day and it works. Thanks for the suggestion though!
