That was a really tough call when you look at the context. Sure Stockman 
is more pro-gun than Brooks. The problem was nobody could predict with 
certainty that the Republicans would take control of the House. If 
Brooks, who was Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, had been 
defeated *and* the Democrats retained control of the House, the Democrat 
with the next highest seniority on that committee would have become 
chairman.
Do you recall who that would have been? Chuckie Schumer, that's who.
