Hi Wendy! Please excuse my butting in here but......
I have been crocheting a christening gown for my new grandbaby due in June.
We already know SHE is a girl so no problem making a gown When my
daughter had her son Steffan, baptized 2-1/2 years ago, they used a sweet
little satin suit. I'm not too sure my SIL would have let her put him in a
"gown" either. I would never even attempt to sew a gown, since I'm not a
terrific seamstress. I do make play clothes for my grandchildren, but that
is about the extent of my sewing besides making some quilts, tree skirts,
victorian crazy quilt christmas stockings and table runners.
The pattern that I am using for my gown is from Leisure Arts Leaflet 2833
"Christening Collection Book 2". The pattern is on the front cover called
"Spider Edge Set". I have about half of the skirt done now and one sleeve.
I have never attempted a project like this before, but I must say it is
coming together quite nicely. I have been using an antique white thread so
it will look like it has been in the family for years already.
My other daughter already has her family (1 stepson 14 yrs old and 1
daughter 4 and one son 2) so couldn't make one for her. She used a gown
that was made from the wedding dress of her husbands grandmother. (So it was
a family heirloom that had been used by his family before.) My son is
planning to marry in the year 2000 to a young lady he has dated since
Freshman in HS so maybe they will want to use the gown I'm making as well
someday. At least it will be done!
Welcome back Wendy.... I gather you've been away a while. I am fairly new
on this echo, but have been on Sew&Quilt for about 2 years now. Thanks for
letting me (Ha-ha, like you had a choice ;).....butt in here. Hope to chat
 with you in the future.
