DA> I have no illusions about solving anything. If the cops roust the
DA> drug dealers for loitering often enough, the net effect is that the
DA> dealers just move to another area.
DA> I don't know about other departments, but in our local PD, the
DA> street cops don't or won't do drug busts. The uniformed officers
DA> avoid the drug dealers and leave everything to the narcotics squad.
DA> I found this out from several sources including local eyewitnesses,
DA> store employees, and a fireman who said that his PD buddy told him
DA> in reference to the drug dealers, "We leave them alone and they
DA> leave us alone."
A friend of mine used to be a cop in Arlington, VA. There was a small
shopping area that had become a hang out for a group of gay drug
dealers. It was having a terrible effect on business, but the police
weren't allowed to make a move because there were gays involved.
My friend parked his police car across the street, pulled out a
camera with a telephoto lens and started snapping it. Within three
nights, they were gone. BTW, he never had any film in the camera.
